AKROS HENSCHEL has been manufacturing scrap shears with lateral pre-compression box for 30 years. From this time, other types of scrap shears with press-wings or inclined shears with continuous operation have been developed. Scrap shears with lateral pre-compression box are the most suitable for heavy and bulky scrap processing. Indeed, the conjunction of considerable stress on the lid and lateral reducer enables to apply very high pressure on the incoming materials, bringing them to dimension before shearing. These shears are particularly powerful and sturdy. They are dedicated to heavy scrap yards and steelworks.

Scrap is loaded into the pre-compression box. The lateral reducer and the lid are operated independently by the operator. Their force enables quick reduction of scrap to process. The lateral reducer ram horizontally compresses the scrap. It has an over-travel compared with the shearing width and is automatically repositioned for the shearing stage. Then, the lid closes the box. It also has a significant over- travel. This over- travel function enables the processing of a log, with a lower volume than the closed box. It enables an easier precompression of some materials and reduces the wear inside the box during the advance to shearing
Once the lateral reducer and the lid are positioned, the shearing automatic cycle starts. The pusher-ram moves step by step according to the length pre-adjusted by the operator. With each forward movement, the scrap is compressed by the clamp ram and then sheared. When the shearing or baling cycle is over, the pusher is positioned back and mobile parts are opened to make a new load.
